AB Men's Basketball Coach Greg Zimmerman A Finalist at U of West Florida

Hit the link for an article on the finalists for the University of West Florida Men's Basketball Job.

Having just taking over the Sports Information Job at AB I really really don't want to see coach Zimmerman leave the program. He is a fantastic coach who has made the ncaa tournament 8 years in row. I would love to see what I could do for that program over the new two or three years. Between live video, audio and social networking I can assure you that exposure would grow by nearly 4 or 5 times what it is now, which would lead to immediate revenue returns.

Lets hope he stays around for a few more years!!

US Men's National Team - Tale of Two Halves

Wow.. been a while since I have posted about the Men's National Team.. Last I did it was the three day stretch were they were smack by Costa Rica and struggled to get a win against Honduras... since then they entered the Confederations Cup in South Africa.

They opened with a loss to Italy 3-1, followed that by getting smacked by Brazil 3-0.. then came the game last Sunday against Egypt. The US needed to win by three goals and Brazil had to beat Italy by three goals.. Somehow by the grace of the soccer gods, thats exactly what happened..

So on to the semifinals, and a shocking win over the World #1 Spain 2-0.. Next up, a rematch with Brazil..

The 1st half was a dream setup.. 10th minute goal by Clint Dempsey.. wow, I thought to myself what a great start, then came the Brazil pressure as they gained numerous corner kicks... Then in the 27th minute off a Brazil corner came a 2v2 break out as Donavon would play the lead pass out left to Davies who would then slot a beautiful left footed ball in front of Landon. LD would chop the ball to the left with his 1st touch turning the Brazilian defender as he flew passed and then would slot the ball perfectly in the left corner for a 2-0 lead...

This however was were possession ended for the US and all they would do is try to hang on. Brazil would score 45 seconds into the 2nd half.. then again in the 72 and 84 minutes to win the Confederations cup 3-2...

Disappointing loss, but definitely a great showing for the US...

Shaq + Lebron = NBA Title???

What an interesting trade... I have heard many opinions on this move, and I have haven't been able to decided if I like it our not..

1st the postives..Shaq is still a guy that is average 17ppg and 8 rbg... He is a huge body that is a major size factor in the middle... He is still very hungry.. ohh and we got him for ben wallace and sasha .. wow.. thats a good steal.. and his contract is expiring after this season...

However.. we didnt address the shooting guard need or the need for a better power forward.. which there is still time to do.. and then most importantly.. Shaq clogs the middle, a spot that Lebron loves to work in...

This opens of the bigger question, will Lebron work to develop the short/middle jumper.. the 6 to 10 footer.. once he gets below the foul line 99% of the time all he does is drop his head and attack the rim.. With Shaq daddy down low, ths will not be nearly as easy... The Orlando series, or most importantly Dwight Howard should a glaring weakeness in Lebron's short jumper game, or lack there of... Heres to hoping this trade will help push LBJ to becoming the complete player..

Welfare Summer 2009 Day 9

Up and down roller coaster day.. but when all is said and done we got a result against Connecticut!!! huge result..

Day 9

Ok sooo this day started early.. if you havent noticed.. I am not doing well with mornings.. it is very tough sometimes to stay motivated.. anyhow .. up at 5:40 .. bfast.. packed.. checked out of the hotel.. caught a ride to the field with some parents.. You can already tell its going to be a brutally hot day.. (Side Note - I applied sun screen like 5 times in six hours, if you didnt know I had skin cancer)

Soo first up is Eastern New York South... well for the 1st 15 minutes we definitely showed up and played like we were supposed to.. We grabbed a 1-0 lead on a sick header off of a free kick.. we nuetralized them in the back and the were able to quickly switch the point of attack, which did wonders in allowing the girls to take advantage of the wide open flanks.. However it was short lived.. as we quickly lost the lead and went into halftime down 3-1... 2nd half wasnt much better as we ended up losing 8-1

soo after a few hours of laying out in the sun waiting.. it was time for the last game of the weekend.. The Connecticut A squad.. A team that lost to New Jersey 3-0 and ENY South 3-1 .. soo we weren't overly optimistic.. However, you could tell right after kickoff that this was a different group that showed up to play...

However, it didn't take long for the lack of defensive experience to show as we gave up goal about 6 minutes in... basically a long ball from the Goal kick over the mids heads .. one bounce to a streaking player that out ran the back four .. not a good goal to allow..

we battled throughout the first half.. and did a good job a sticking out the bad spells..

the 2nd half was much of the same we battled, but just couldnt finish.... Finally with about 8 minutes to go the soccer gods answered.. another goal of a corner kick.. and we drew 1-1.. A fantastic result as we got one of only three points total for WV ODP.. this was big.. what a great group of girls...

Then game the fun stuff... another 6 hour drive back to my car.. with noooo sleep... (I wasnt able to sleep because our driver would smack me ever 10 minutes or soo to make sure I stayed awake.) Finally got home around 9:30.. brutal.. time to relax..
