AB Men's Basketball Coach Greg Zimmerman A Finalist at U of West Florida

Hit the link for an article on the finalists for the University of West Florida Men's Basketball Job.

Having just taking over the Sports Information Job at AB I really really don't want to see coach Zimmerman leave the program. He is a fantastic coach who has made the ncaa tournament 8 years in row. I would love to see what I could do for that program over the new two or three years. Between live video, audio and social networking I can assure you that exposure would grow by nearly 4 or 5 times what it is now, which would lead to immediate revenue returns.

Lets hope he stays around for a few more years!!

US Men's National Team - Tale of Two Halves

Wow.. been a while since I have posted about the Men's National Team.. Last I did it was the three day stretch were they were smack by Costa Rica and struggled to get a win against Honduras... since then they entered the Confederations Cup in South Africa.

They opened with a loss to Italy 3-1, followed that by getting smacked by Brazil 3-0.. then came the game last Sunday against Egypt. The US needed to win by three goals and Brazil had to beat Italy by three goals.. Somehow by the grace of the soccer gods, thats exactly what happened..

So on to the semifinals, and a shocking win over the World #1 Spain 2-0.. Next up, a rematch with Brazil..

The 1st half was a dream setup.. 10th minute goal by Clint Dempsey.. wow, I thought to myself what a great start, then came the Brazil pressure as they gained numerous corner kicks... Then in the 27th minute off a Brazil corner came a 2v2 break out as Donavon would play the lead pass out left to Davies who would then slot a beautiful left footed ball in front of Landon. LD would chop the ball to the left with his 1st touch turning the Brazilian defender as he flew passed and then would slot the ball perfectly in the left corner for a 2-0 lead...

This however was were possession ended for the US and all they would do is try to hang on. Brazil would score 45 seconds into the 2nd half.. then again in the 72 and 84 minutes to win the Confederations cup 3-2...

Disappointing loss, but definitely a great showing for the US...

Shaq + Lebron = NBA Title???

What an interesting trade... I have heard many opinions on this move, and I have haven't been able to decided if I like it our not..

1st the postives..Shaq is still a guy that is average 17ppg and 8 rbg... He is a huge body that is a major size factor in the middle... He is still very hungry.. ohh and we got him for ben wallace and sasha .. wow.. thats a good steal.. and his contract is expiring after this season...

However.. we didnt address the shooting guard need or the need for a better power forward.. which there is still time to do.. and then most importantly.. Shaq clogs the middle, a spot that Lebron loves to work in...

This opens of the bigger question, will Lebron work to develop the short/middle jumper.. the 6 to 10 footer.. once he gets below the foul line 99% of the time all he does is drop his head and attack the rim.. With Shaq daddy down low, ths will not be nearly as easy... The Orlando series, or most importantly Dwight Howard should a glaring weakeness in Lebron's short jumper game, or lack there of... Heres to hoping this trade will help push LBJ to becoming the complete player..

Welfare Summer 2009 Day 9

Up and down roller coaster day.. but when all is said and done we got a result against Connecticut!!! huge result..

Day 9

Ok sooo this day started early.. if you havent noticed.. I am not doing well with mornings.. it is very tough sometimes to stay motivated.. anyhow .. up at 5:40 .. bfast.. packed.. checked out of the hotel.. caught a ride to the field with some parents.. You can already tell its going to be a brutally hot day.. (Side Note - I applied sun screen like 5 times in six hours, if you didnt know I had skin cancer)

Soo first up is Eastern New York South... well for the 1st 15 minutes we definitely showed up and played like we were supposed to.. We grabbed a 1-0 lead on a sick header off of a free kick.. we nuetralized them in the back and the were able to quickly switch the point of attack, which did wonders in allowing the girls to take advantage of the wide open flanks.. However it was short lived.. as we quickly lost the lead and went into halftime down 3-1... 2nd half wasnt much better as we ended up losing 8-1

soo after a few hours of laying out in the sun waiting.. it was time for the last game of the weekend.. The Connecticut A squad.. A team that lost to New Jersey 3-0 and ENY South 3-1 .. soo we weren't overly optimistic.. However, you could tell right after kickoff that this was a different group that showed up to play...

However, it didn't take long for the lack of defensive experience to show as we gave up goal about 6 minutes in... basically a long ball from the Goal kick over the mids heads .. one bounce to a streaking player that out ran the back four .. not a good goal to allow..

we battled throughout the first half.. and did a good job a sticking out the bad spells..

the 2nd half was much of the same we battled, but just couldnt finish.... Finally with about 8 minutes to go the soccer gods answered.. another goal of a corner kick.. and we drew 1-1.. A fantastic result as we got one of only three points total for WV ODP.. this was big.. what a great group of girls...

Then game the fun stuff... another 6 hour drive back to my car.. with noooo sleep... (I wasnt able to sleep because our driver would smack me ever 10 minutes or soo to make sure I stayed awake.) Finally got home around 9:30.. brutal.. time to relax..

Welfare Summer 2009 Days 7 & 8

Soo Im like a week or soo behind.. never realized how unmotivated summer makes me.. but I'll catch this bad boy up in no time..

Day 7

Fbook Status

Welfare Summer Day #7 - on my way to Jersey.. Region 1 ODP tournament.. 1st game is tonight vs Connecticut..

Soo not really an exciting day... up at 6:30. packed and out the door by 7:30... Its raining .. FFFFF.. nothing worse then a long drive rain.. abolutely brutal.. got to Clarksburg(WV) around 9 am to hop in the car with a fellow coach.. drove to Morgantown to pick up another coach and we are on our way.... The drive to New Jersey is not exactly a fun one...I-68 blows, 206 to bedford blows as well. and then of course the PA turnpike.. cost 12 dollars for us to drive on a shitty four lane highway.. good news is there are very few cops so that does usually help.

The drive is always an interesting one.. especially with this one individual.. (I am sure most poeople can relate to the this next part... ) One of the passengers is the kind of person that everything revolves around them... crazy self absorbed. Even more selfabsorbed then myself.. Which is very hard to find.. Just kinda of crazy to listen to the stuff over and over again.. How do you handle a person like this?? do you just

So we race to Jersey and do to the Monsoon that was over the east coast our game for the night was cancelled... Well thats useless.. soo I settled for chinese food, Yinglueng and the Soloist on my laptop top... long asss day tomorrow

Day 8 ...

up to early.. like 7:15 am.. thats the one thing that blows about soccer tournaments.. wether im coaching or recruiting I always have to get up way too early..

Game One - New Jersey ODP 1994's Girls - ohhh boy.. usually year in and year out one of the best ODP programs in Region 1...

Needless to say.. it was not a good result.. one thing that is must for players to understand when playing extremely superior talent.. You have to give 110% or else things can and will get out of hand. 9-0 was the final, and realistcally not very much to take away from this game.. We were unable to string anything together offensively and defensively we had noo anwer for their Women's National Team inspired 4-3-3... the third players centrally created all kinds of isues for us on defense.. A good finishing team might have put 20 on us.. Our GK however was a definite bright spot..as she played out of this word..

Good news.. I got to coach against and have lunch with a good friend.. She is a high school teacher in Jersey, who coaches at the high school level and is the assistant with ODP... She is such a wonderful chick.. One of the coolest females I know.. could definitely see myself marrying someone like that..

The rest of the day was spent watching some of the other teams play... the 92/93 girls team got humped pretty good by Mass and New Hampshire..

Spent the evening with the Director of coaching from WV and some other staff members as we watched the U.S. Men's National team against Honduras.. they again started slow giving up a goal in the ist 10 minutes.. This time they rallied back to get a result, a 2-1 victory..

Off to be around 1am.. gotta get up at 5:30.. eww for two games in the morning..

Ramirez is God Fantasy Baseball

So as if I need another reason to not do meaningful stuff and waste more time on the internet... why not post about my fantasy baseball team. Ok, soo before you look at the standings and my team, I suck at fantasy sports... I am not sure if it is my ADHD, or the fact that I am really stupid when it comes to sports.. but wow, I am not very good.. Every player I cut gets picked up later only to help out someone else.. People I bench hit well, those I start go 0-4 with 3 k's .. just great..

So here are the standings after Week 8

Less Then A Month Till Manny Returns

While many could care less if Manny Ramirez ever returns to the game, I am one of those that does.. Since day 1 I have been the self proclaimed biggest Ramirez fan on earth.. collecting memorabilia, baseball cards, autographs, skipping work to watch clutch games, or even video taping every about for three months straight back in 1996.. I have done it all..

Did Manny use steroids.. unfortunately my denial is over and I believe he did.. however his legacy shouldn't be tarnished.. his numbers are unreal and he is going to go down as one of the best hitters ever in baseball...

A little tribute..

Welfare Summer 2009 Day 6

Day #6
Facebook Status

Welfare Summer Day #6 - Up at 7:30, skipped on pirates game due to rain.. Trying out this whole stay at home mom thing, laundry, dishes, vacuuming and cooking.. shhitt.. give me a kid and a rich wife and I am set!!!

Woke up at early again, only this time it was supposed be for a purpose.. well that never happened.. the threat of rain, mixed with the fact that I was exactly thrilled to ride six hours round trip, crammed in a car to watch the Pirates play.. soo I skipped out on the rode trip to Pittsburgh.. I think it was a good decision, as for some reason I was totally productive..

Spent the day cleaning out the car, and attempting to clean the apartment. did the dishes.. cleaned out the fridge and stove.. totally could handle this whole stay at home thing.. ya know?? Clean, run errands, watch the kids, do some blogging, pay the bills.. easy stuff right?? well probably not that easy, but boy did it seem easy for the day.

I must of been feeling under the weather, because for some reason I even decided that I was going get things packed a whole day early for my trip to New Jersey.. Which brings up a good questions, are those that are chronic procrastinators destined to be this way forever?? What does it take for someone to snap out of this need to wait for an approaching deadline to get motivated?? I wonder where I would be in life if I did things in a timely fashion.. I would of had much better grades.. I would probably be in much better shape. Would I have ended up at a different college??? most likely.. would I have stuck with football instead of switching to soccer in high school?? again most likely.. Which is pretty crazy to think about.. Without soccer, there would be no Salem International, there would be no Glenville State, no Alderson Broaddus, no Sports Information Director, no College Coaching.. Would I be stuck in a desk job somewhere?? making good money, but not liking life?? possibly.. hmmm.. crazy to think about..

After the productive day.. game the dreaded torture of Game 1 of the NBA Finals.. sooo painful it was as I watched the Lakers drub the Orlando Magic.. Makes you wonder what if?? What if Mike Brown didn't get out coached??? What if Delonte West hits that shot in game 1? What if the Cavs don't blow massive leads in the Game 1 and 3 losses.. ahhh torture.. anyhow the Lakers looked like a team that was ready to win a NBA Championship.. they jumped all over the Magic from start to finish.. and ohhh wait.. Lamar Oden looked like he wanted to play.. wow...

Oh well off to bed.. up early to head to Jersey...

Summer 2009 - Just Like Welfare Days 4 & 5

Slowing catching up back up..

Day 4

Facebook Status -
Welfare Day #4 - up at 7:30 am, to gville to make Coach Osborne happy, then up to AB to work.. this blows.. My ass coach EEEEEE would be soo proud of me for focusing my ADHD for 5 hours to actually get something accomplished!!

Sooo this is not exactly starting out like I wanted to it.. back to back of getting up at early and doing work..

Ran up to the office at Glenville State (yes I know I said I quit, I have feeling this is going to be a reoccurring theme. Oh well) to take care of some multimedia stuff for Coach DO..

Then it was off to Alderson-Broaddus (the new job) to get some much need paperwork taken care of..

Got some major work taken care of.. financial contracts, scheduling stuff, met with the Dixie Sports rep for some orders.. wayy productive..

While there got into an interesting conversation with some co workers.. Having now worked at three different Colleges/Universities it makes me wonder if anyone is ever happy..

At one school they complain about scholarships and pay scale, another school they complain about lack of assistants and pay scale and at Salem Int'l they just complain about everything!! (sorry that was my little jab at Salem for the day, get used to it)

Makes me wonder if I am in the minority because I love my job.. oh well, maybe I am just saying that because it is summer and I don't really have to work?? hmm who knows..

After work, it was out to dinner with some co workers.. Outback it is.. I go to outback for three things the BOGO free 99 cent drafts, Blue Cheese Chop Salad and the Ahi Tuna appetizer.. damnn good..

After dinner it was another long drive back to my apartment.. The 75 miles isn't really and issue, except tonight it was a monsoon on the way home.. Soo rain and dodging deer (which I believe out number people in WV 3 to 1) it is not a fun drive home..

In bed around 1am after putzing around on the Internet.. back at it again tomorrow..

Day 5
Facebook Status

Welfare Summer 2009 Day #5 - Up at 11am, lunch with some former coworkers, office for 30 minutes.. back to the apartment.. definitely what a summer vaca is supposed to be like..

Ahhhhh finally another real summer day.. woke up after a solid 10 hours of sleep... sooo nice.. just in time to go out to lunch with two former glenville co workers.. always a good time when I am out with those two... helps they are pretty darn hot.

After that it was straight back to the apartment tooo dooo nothing.. nahh.. I was actually pretty productive.. work on sorting through the crap here so that maybe I will be ready to move.. ohh wait I still ha vent found a place to live.. I should probably do that... been dragging my feet..

I finally broke my four plus day boycott of Espn and Espn.com.. (I had to, really I did) The US Men's National Team played Costa Rica on what looked like a 1970 turf field.. crazy!! Lets just say that had I known that the US would play that bad, I would have continued the boycott.. wow was that awful.. two goals allowed in the opening 13 minutes.. and that would be all she wrote.. if not for a late questionable PK, the Americans would have gotten blanked.. it was flat awful...

Beasley and Wynn looked disastrous at the outside back positions... Bradley and Mastoreani looked out of sync in the middle of the field, as they couldn't seem to defend anyone.. They gave the Costa Ricans soo much space to operate. The turf provided and extremely fast pitch, which clearly showed the US's lack of quality touch.. looked like a high school team sometimes with they first touch.. sooo bad.. oh well offf to bed..

Welfare Summer 2009 Days 2 & 3

Ok.. soo I have been slacking.. Meant to do this as a day by day but the first week of welfare summer was filled with some laziness and all in all a lack wanting to type..on a side note I guess I should invest in the speak to talk software.. lol..Soo here I will do a few days as a time for a speed recap..

OK heree we goo..This will be shown only in post's page

DAY 2

Facebook Status -

welfare summer day #2 - woke up at 10:45. loving this.. beckley for recruiting and odp..

A pretty good 2nd day to my summer... minus the four hours of driving.. coasted a rediculous high speed down to Beckley for a little recruiting, some catching up with hold friends and ODP training session... Side Note #2 - I love my car.. or should I say i love my sunroof.. check out this pic..you will see why.. .

the sunroof is flat amazing .. not to mention it drives fairly well and has a wicked good sound system..

After hours of chit chat and recruiting it was time for ODP practice... I could tell with in minutes (do to the whinning that it was not going to be a real good practice)... Click here for the full recap ... It was tough to motivate a bunch of kids that just really didnt want to be there.. having cut the squad down to the final 18, and being just one week before the regional tournament they all new they had a spot on the team.. Oh well..

wrapped up around 6pm.. BS'd with a few more coaches, said goodbye to my boys (Andy, Jeremy and Carlos) and then coasted home..

Got home.. and did nothing but stare at the TV watching some usually programming. Side Note #3 - I am currently boycotting Espn and Espn.com.. as I really dont think I am mentally stable enough to see reruns of the highlights from the Cavs getting knocked out, or more talk of Lebron be a poor sport.. I just can't do it.. lol oohh well..

Off to bed just at after 11pm.. wow.. thats early..

Day #3

Facebook -

Welfare Summer Day #3 - Woke up at 6:15am..WTF?? Apparently now that I dont have to work, I decided I should go into to Glenville at 7:30am.. Oh well.. siesta, then Indians Baseball..

So the Fbook status says it all.. I woke up at 6:15.. no alarm.. no loud noise.. no needing to pee.. just straight up woke up early with a ton of energy... Crazy!! .. soo my 1st weekday of summer was not exactly starting out as I had planned it..

Went into Gville (yes I know this post says I quit, well i am a work a holic) and got mad work done.. coasted for about the 1st four hours before deciding to go get lunch.. worked until around 2.. went home . and vegggged..

I truely love not having to do a thing.. it is soooo nice.. especially after what I endured over the last 10 months..

Big night as the Indians are on Espn..wait, shit... I cant watch it due to Day #2 of my protest... grrrrr.. soo instead it was an amazng two plus hour show of DMB on hulu.com ... Side Note #4 - check out www.hulu.com great website..

Dave is such an amazing performer... wowow.. (update - i have since watched the full show two more times.. sooo good and free!!!!)

Year in and Year out, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Eastern NY South and Eastern PA and Connecticut are usually the best Girls state ODP teams. Well the West Virginia 94/95 Girls team drew three of those six, getting much up with ENY South, New Jersey and Connecticut. Summer 2009 - Just Like Welfare Day #1

Here is where I will be keeping tabs on my "Just Like Welfare Summer of 2009".... Now you may be asking, Just like Welfare?? Huh.. Well here is the deal.. I just recently finished up working two jobs, Click Here for a quick recap of that. One was a 9 month contract and the other was a 10 month deal... So now I am left sitting at home for two months with no real responsibilities and I get to collect paychecks from the two jobs all summer.. Sooo that my friends is how the idea behind the Welfare Summer of 2009 started...

Facebook Status - 5/30/09 -

Welfare Summer Day #1, Woke up at 11am... lol... Just

chillen rocking out to the new DAVE cd and cleaning..

Sooo what an up and down first day.. Woke up at 11am. and just relaxed. made a pretty wicked brunch of mac and cheese and a western omelete... it was amazing...

I completely fought the urge on three different times to be productive (for those note takers, it was 2:12, 4:41, and 6:15). All three of those were increasing more difficult, but I sucessfully fought them off, only to remain useless... Dinner was grilled tilapia and green beans.. talk about unreal!!

Then it was time for a cocktail and the pregame fun of getting ready for the Cavaliers big Game 6 victory.. umm well yeah. that victory never came.. nor were they even close... pathetic.. Mike Brown got out coached and the team got out played... and anyone who blames Lebron in the slightest way is a moron...

Ohhh well.. to make myself feel better, it was off to the Lions Lair.. I will discuss the Lions Lair and why going there makes me feel better in more detail enventually..

Randomly staggering home and offf to bed ... Welfare Summer 2009 Day #1 successfully in the books..

And Lastly some pictures to give you a visual reference to where a good majority of the Welfare Summer will be taking place..
